Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about using VocaScript.
Which video formats can I upload?
MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI, WMV, FLV and M4V work, as do camera and broadcast formats such as MTS, M2TS, MPG and 3GP. The audio is taken from the video on our servers, so you do not need to convert anything first.
Why was my 4K video rejected?
Uploads currently accept video up to 2560 pixels on the long side. Export the video at 1440p or 1080p, or upload only its audio. Both give the same transcript.
Can I make subtitles for my video?
Yes. Paid plans export SRT and VTT subtitle files with the original timing, which YouTube, Vimeo and most video editors accept. Every segment keeps its start and end time, so the subtitles match the original video. The free plan exports the transcript as plain text (TXT).
How long can a video file be?
Without an account, one transcription covers up to 5 minutes of each file. A free account covers up to 25 minutes per transcription, within 120 minutes per month, and you can continue a longer file from where its transcript stopped. Paid plans cover up to 4 hours per transcription on Plus, 8 hours on Pro and 16 hours on Max.
How large can a video file be?
Up to 1 GB without an account and 2 GB with a free account. Paid plans accept 4 GB on Plus, 8 GB on Pro and 16 GB on Max. Files over 500 MB take longer to upload, so for a long video, uploading only the audio is faster.
Is VocaScript free, and do I need an account?
Yes. You can transcribe without an account. A free account gives you more minutes, longer transcriptions and your transcripts on every device. If you reach a limit as a guest, sign in and try again from the same page.
