Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about using VocaScript.
Why did my YouTube link fail?
A pasted link can fail even for a public video. The browser extension works from the YouTube page in your own browser, and it is the most reliable way to transcribe YouTube.
Do youtu.be links and Shorts work?
Short youtu.be links and Shorts links fail more often than full links. Open the video, copy the full address that contains watch?v=, or use the browser extension from the video page.
Can I transcribe my own unlisted or unpublished videos?
Yes. Upload the original video on the video file page. It works for unlisted videos and videos that are not published yet.
What does a VocaScript transcript add to a YouTube video?
Each speaker is labeled, segments are grouped into readable paragraphs with timestamps, any segment can be corrected, and the text exports to TXT, SRT or VTT. With the extension, the transcript can also appear as subtitles on the video.
Can I transcribe a whole playlist or channel?
Each video is transcribed from its own link. Channel and playlist pages list many videos, so paste the link to each video you want.
How long can a YouTube video be?
Without an account, one transcription covers up to 5 minutes of each video. A free account covers up to 25 minutes per transcription, within 120 minutes per month, and you can continue a longer video from where its transcript stopped. Paid plans cover up to 4 hours per transcription on Plus, 8 hours on Pro and 16 hours on Max.
Is VocaScript free, and do I need an account?
Yes. You can transcribe without an account. A free account gives you more minutes, longer transcriptions and your transcripts on every device. If you reach a limit as a guest, sign in and try again from the same page.
